Essential Intentions Practice

A practice for setting ceremony intentions that cultivate lasting transformation

This practice helps you move beyond problem-solving to set intentions rooted in qualities of being—what's already whole and true about you—rather than external outcomes you want to achieve.

Part 1: Shift Your Perspective

Instead of asking "What do I want to fix or get?" ask "What quality of being wants to emerge through me?"

Remember: Your parts aren’t broken and your Core Self isn’t missing. This ceremony is about remembering and reclaiming what's already within you.

Part 2: Surface Your Essential Quality

Choose ONE approach that resonates most:

Approach A: Direct Recognition

Reflect on these questions and notice what arises:

  • What feels most needed in my life right now?

  • What kind of presence would help me meet this moment?

  • If I were already healed/whole, what quality might I naturally embody?

  • Is there a word or energy that keeps showing up for me lately?

Approach B: Shadow to Light

If you're more aware of what you're struggling with, work backwards:

  • What do I keep avoiding, resisting, or chasing?

  • What emotional loop do I keep getting caught in?

  • What belief have I been carrying about myself or the world?

  • What story has been running the show in my life?

Then ask: What essential quality might be hidden beneath this pattern?

Examples:

  • If you avoid stillness → Presence or Peace

  • If you feel "not good enough" → Worthiness or Self-Love

  • If you believe "I have to prove myself" → Trust or Authenticity

Part 3: Set Your Intention

Once an essential quality emerges, keep it simple:

"Teach me about [Quality]" or "Show me [Quality]"

Examples:

  • "Teach me about Grace"

  • "Show me Trust"

  • "Teach me about Clarity"

  • "Show me Compassion"

Part 4: Work with Resistance

If a part of you protests ("But I really need help with my specific situation!"), that's normal. Notice this with compassion and remember:

  • The ceremony may absolutely address your specific concerns, but in more creative and holistic ways than your mind could imagine

  • When you cultivate an essential quality, it transforms not just one situation but your whole orientation to life

  • You're learning to become someone who embodies this Self-energy quality, not just someone who gets a one-time answer

Part 5: Trust the Process

Your job is simply to:

  1. Choose your essential intention

  2. Offer it to the ceremony with sincerity

  3. Surrender to whatever unfolds

  4. Trust that the deeper intelligence of your being knows what you need

The ceremony will do the rest.

Remember: There's no "right" way to do this. If another quality or phrase emerges during ceremony, follow that. Stay curious, stay open, and trust what wants to emerge.
